We are a ministry.

As a ministry that plants churches and connects them to each other, we operate in many ways like a church. Our executive director relates to the network churches in many ways as a pastor-at-large. We also ordain elders for ministry. But it's our observation that many conventional churches lose sight of what it means to just be church, and instead form identities around ministry programs and business models. As a matter of principle, we make the distinction that X242 is a ministry, and an association of churches, but not another "church." May the churches we plant find their identity not in the structure, form, or ministry model, but in their relationship with each other in Christ.  

We are a nonprofit organization.

We seek to do all things in good order and be above reproach. To that end, "X242, Inc." is setup as a nonprofit corporation with a board of directors for direction and accountability, and so that there is no confusion about its legitimacy or intentions of permanency. As an association of churches, we qualify for 501c3 tax exemption, and will give year end statements accordingly. And yet, we trust that anyone who supports this ministry financially would do so even if the tax benefit ceased. We trust that God is able to provide abundantly through the donations of his people to accomplish all that he wants this ministry to accomplish. With that we will be content.

Roger Shenk, Executive Director

Roger served in full-time conventional church ministry for 22 years, half as a worship pastor at a church plant in Portland, Oregon, and half as a lead pastor in Sarasota, Florida, working to revitalize the traditional church that he was raised in. In 2021 he was released with his church's blessing to develop a ministry that plants and encourages microchurches. In addition to leading X242, he writes books, he teaches, he has a spiritual direction and pastoral counseling practice, and is available for speaking engagements. Board of Directors

Mike Christner and Jeremy Miller serve along with Roger Shenk as a Board of Directors for the ministry, with the help of the network elders who serve as an advisory board to give direction and care for the needs of the network churches.
